A platform with purpose.

Every journey has a beginning, and mine started in the most unexpected way.

Before pageantry, I was a passionate hockey player. I loved being on the field, pushing myself to improve with every game. However, after an accident in 2016, that chapter of my life came to an unexpected end. At the time, I had no idea that one closed door would soon lead me to a completely different path.

A few months later, my mom entered me into a small local pageant. It wasn't part of a grand plan, she simply knew how much I enjoyed dressing up and pretending to model around the house for fun. What started as a light-hearted experience quickly became something much bigger when I won my category.

The following year, I entered my school's pageant and once again won my division. It was in that moment that I realised pageantry was more than just a competition to me, it was something I genuinely loved. Soon afterwards, someone from Trelique Models International approached my mother and encouraged us to consider professional modelling training.

That conversation changed everything.

In 2017, I officially joined Trelique Models International, marking the beginning of what has now become a journey spanning more than nine years. Looking back, what first seemed like an unfortunate setback on the hockey field became the opportunity that introduced me to a world that would shape my confidence, resilience, and ultimately my purpose.

When I first joined Trelique Models International, I had so much to learn. Looking back now, I can honestly laugh about it. My posture wasn't where it needed to be, my footwork was all over the place, and I was still trying to figure out what pageantry was really about. As my coach would often remind me, there was a lot of work ahead.

At that stage of my life, pageantry was simply fun. I loved the dresses, the beautiful hairstyles, the excitement of being on stage, the crowns, and the sashes. I had no idea that this hobby would one day become a platform for purpose.

In 2018, I entered Miss Pre-Teen KwaZulu-Natal, my biggest competition yet. It was also one of the most difficult seasons of my life, following the passing of my grandfather just a month before. Despite everything, I chose to compete and give the competition everything I had.

To my surprise, I won the title of Miss Pre-Teen KwaZulu-Natal 2018.

That crowning moment was a major turning point. For the first time, I realised that pageantry wasn't just a hobby, it was a platform that gave me a voice and an opportunity to make a difference in my community. It motivated me to work even harder, to push past my comfort zone, and to dedicate myself fully to my training.

But more than anything, it taught me that strength doesn't come from what you can do; it comes from overcoming the things you once thought you couldn't.

With the title of Miss Pre-Teen KwaZulu-Natal came a new responsibility, one that went far beyond the stage.

For the first time, I was expected to initiate charity projects, volunteer in my community, and use my platform to support causes that mattered. It was a completely new experience, and at first, I wasn't sure how to begin. I soon realised that the best way to make a difference was simply to start with the people around me.

I began visiting local orphanages, volunteering at animal shelters, and supporting community initiatives. I remember collecting food, toys, and blankets, and spending afternoons playing with the children or helping care for the animals. These projects weren't about recognition; they were about choosing to do what was right, not what was easy.

During this time, I met so many inspiring people who taught me the true meaning of kindness and generosity.

One of the most memorable projects was working with a local children's shelter. Seeing the joy on the children's faces from a simple visit or a small gift reminded me that you don't need a grand plan to make a difference, you just need a willing heart.

These experiences completely changed my perspective on pageantry.

I began to see that a title is not a prize to be kept; it is a tool to be used for the benefit of others. It shifted my focus from winning to serving, and from personal success to community impact. I realised that the crown is not a symbol of status, but a symbol of service.

This realization guided my preparation for my next major step: representing KwaZulu-Natal at the national level.

In 2019, I entered Miss Mzansi Pageant, a national competition that brought together contestants from all nine provinces. The journey was intense, demanding months of training, community work, and preparation. But unlike before, I wasn't just competing for myself, I was representing my province and the community that had supported me from the very beginning.

On the final night of the competition, I was crowned Miss Mzansi Pre-Teen 2019.

Winning a national title was an incredible achievement, but the true victory was discovering the purpose behind the crown. It gave me a larger platform to speak about causes I was passionate about, to inspire other young girls, and to continue serving my community at a national level.

It taught me that the most beautiful thing about pageantry is not the glamour on stage, but the opportunity to make a lasting difference off stage.

Representing my national title was one of the greatest honours of my journey. It opened doors to incredible opportunities, from charity events and community initiatives to competitions and appearances across KwaZulu-Natal. Every experience helped me grow, but not always in the way I expected.

Looking back honestly, success also taught me one of my biggest life lessons.

As I started receiving invitations to events and continued achieving success in competitions, I slowly developed an unhealthy mindset. I began believing I deserved to win simply because of the title I already held. Without realising it, my confidence had turned into pride.

Life has a remarkable way of teaching us the lessons we need most.

That lesson came at Miss Zululand in 2019.

When my name wasn't announced in the Top 5, I remember feeling disappointed and frustrated. I questioned why I hadn't won and convinced myself that I deserved a higher placement. Today, I can confidently say that losing that competition was one of the greatest blessings of my pageant journey.

It humbled me.

More importantly, it taught me that no title makes you greater than anyone else. Every contestant works hard, every girl has a dream, and every winner deserves to be celebrated.

That lesson completely changed my outlook on pageantry.

Over the next few years, I returned to Miss Zululand with a very different mindset. In 2021, I placed Second Runner-Up. In 2023, I finished as First Runner-Up. Rather than becoming discouraged, each competition became an opportunity to learn. I reviewed videos of my performances, identified areas for improvement, and worked harder than before. Most importantly, I learned to celebrate the success of others just as enthusiastically as I hoped they would celebrate mine.

By 2024, my goal was no longer simply to win. My goal was to become a better version of myself.

When my category winners were announced and my name wasn't called, I felt disappointed, but I was genuinely happy for the contestant who had earned the title. I applauded with pride, believing my journey had simply led to another valuable lesson.

Then came a moment I never expected.

I had completely forgotten that the competition would also crown an overall winner across all divisions.

When my name was announced as Ultimate Grand Supreme of Zululand and Empress KwaZulu-Natal, I was overwhelmed with emotion. After four years of perseverance, countless hours of preparation, and a complete transformation in mindset, I hadn't just won my category, I had received the competition's highest honour.

Looking back today, I don't remember that journey because of the crown.

I remember it because it taught me that success is earned through humility, resilience, and continuous growth. Sometimes, the greatest victories come only after life teaches you how to lose with grace.

While pageantry remained my primary focus, my training at Trelique Models International opened doors to other creative fields.

I began working as a runway model for local designers and participating in fashion shows. Over the years, I had the privilege to be featured in several different magazines and articles written about my journey, and had the honor to be featured in my local newspapers. I loved the creative collaboration of modelling, working with photographers, designers, and make-up artists to bring a specific vision to life.

In addition to modelling, I discovered a new passion for public speaking.

I began working as a Master of Ceremonies (MC) for local pageants, fashion shows, and community events. I still remember the nerves before my first MCing opportunity, standing backstage, holding a microphone, and realizing that the entire evening's flow depended on my voice. But just like my first time on stage, the nerves quickly turned into excitement.

MCing taught me to think on my feet, connect with an audience, and use my voice to bring energy and warmth to an event. It was a reminder that communication is not just about the words you speak, but the connection you create.

By 2025, I felt ready to return to national competition.

For years, I had watched Pageant Festival online, always hoping that one day I would stand on that stage myself. That dream became a reality when I entered Pageant Festival 2 in 2025. Competing against some of the country's strongest contestants was both exciting and humbling. Although I walked away with 11 titles and awards, I left knowing that my greatest achievement wasn't the number of awards, it was recognising that I was capable of even more.

Instead of settling, I went back to work.

Over the following months, I dedicated countless hours to refining every aspect of my performance. I practised my runway, improved my technique, strengthened my stage presence, and challenged myself by entering every division I possibly could, including evening wear, talent, fun fashion, photography, and, most importantly, the themed performance category I had dreamed of competing in from the very beginning.

When Pageant Festival 1 arrived in May 2026, all the preparation finally came together.

One of the biggest lessons of the competition came during my evening wear performance. Partway through my routine, I stumbled on stage. For a split second, I had a choice: allow the mistake to define my performance or push forward with confidence. I chose to keep going, encouraging myself to finish stronger than I had started.

To my surprise, I went on to win my category in the evening wear division. That moment reminded me that perfection isn't what makes a champion, it's how you respond when things don't go according to plan.

But the moment I will treasure forever was the Theme Performance.

After waiting for hours, my category was finally called late that evening. By then, every contestant was filled with excitement and anticipation. We jokingly called ourselves the "dangerous group" because we had been waiting all day for our chance to perform.

For my routine, I brought one of my greatest passions to life: Harry Potter.

Standing on that national stage, portraying a story I had loved since childhood, was a dream come true. Somewhere during my performance, something changed. I stopped worrying about perfect technique and simply enjoyed every second. The rehearsed smiles disappeared, replaced by genuine excitement, laughter, and pure joy. It remains, without question, the most enjoyable performance I have ever given.

When the awards were announced, I placed second in all five Theme Performance divisions and finished the competition with 22 titles and awards.

Yet, when I look back on that day, the awards are not what I remember most.

I remember the excitement, the friendships backstage, the determination to keep going after making a mistake, and the incredible feeling of performing simply because I loved every second of it.

That competition reminded me why I fell in love with pageantry all those years ago.
